Charlotte Bartrop's Artwork

Hi there, welcome to my page. It would be brilliant to hear your comments about my art work. The work shown represents my progression through my degree at Bath School of Art, studying Fine Art and will be added to as I embark on my life away from the institution. Thank you for any comments or suggestions.

About Me

Charlotte Bartrop
I am interested to express through man-sized, 3D sculptures made from exposed materials found in the construction of buildings, the subject of urban living and life styles. My focus is ‘urbanization’ in particular council housing. These soulless buildings are powerful with a feeling of reality and simple practicality. The abstract forms and repetitive geometric shapes represent my ideas of utilitarian buildings, “No mystery, no romanticism, and no obscurities”. The council house acts as a façade behind which the luxury living space created by the post-war Welfare State fights the alienating self-contained personal modules of habitation. Influences include David Hepher’s grim but honest mixed media paintings, Basil Beattie’s prints containing a ‘lung’ for the viewer to fill and Emilio Vedova’s sculptural paintings in space.
